The Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ soccer team fell in the quarterfinals of the state tournament Thursday afternoon. As heard live on KCII, the Wildcats squared off against Carroll Kuemper Catholic at the Cownie Soccer Complex. The game was even at 0-0 after 80 minutes of regulation had ticked by, sending the match to overtime. The golden goal rule was in effect for overtime, meaning the first team to score a goal wins the match. In the first 10-minute overtime period, with six second left, Carroll Kuemper Catholic knocked a goal into the net to advance to the semifinals. The Wildcats end their season 17-2.
