It was a great start to the outdoor season for the Lone Tree Lion girls’ track team earlier this week. The Lady Lions traveled north to Benton County Tuesday, competing in the Belle Plaine Invitational.
Lone Tree had multiple first place finishes at the meet, assisting the Lions in capturing the Class B Invitational title with 160 points. Among the teams Lone Tree topped in the Class B field include Don Bosco, English Valleys, HLV, Iowa Valley, Keota, Meskwaki, and Tri-County. The Lady Lions earned half their team points on events they won outright, five individual races and three relays.
Senior Paige Doehrmann, last week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, took first place honors in the 100 meter and 400 meter dashes. Her 100 meter dash was clocked at 13.36 seconds, and she completed her quarter mile run in 1:07.49. Doehrmann was also member of the Lions 4×100 meter relay team, which earned first place honors with a time of 55.51 seconds. Other members of the 4×100 meter relay squad includes freshman Chloe Jacque, and juniors Elena Sieverding and Madison Forbes.
Two additional relay teams placed first. The 4×200 meter squad of Jacque, sophomore Marisa Swails, freshman Carly Moore, and Sieverding crossed the finish line in 2:02.65, three-tenths of a second faster than Don Bosco for first place. The 400 meter shuttle hurdle crew of sophomore Zoie Simonson, Swails, senior Devyn Alt, and sophomore Emily Feldman won the event with a time of 1:18.82.
A trio of underclassmen earned first place finishes as well for the Lady Lions. Sophomore Sydney Alt and senior Lexi Flake were the only competitors in the meet’s 3000 meter run. Alt crossed the finish line first place with a time of 13:36.86, while Flake clocked 15:46.57. Sophomore Nico Smith ran the fastest 800 meter time, ending the half mile run in 2:52.16. Sophomore Emily Feldman took part in the 100 meter hurdles, recording a time of 18.58 seconds, a full second faster than the competition.
The Lady Lions return to competition Tuesday, taking part in the Mediapolis Invitational at Mediapolis High School.
