The postseason run for the Washington Demon girls’ basketball (10-11 overall) team was short-lived. As heard on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com Wednesday evening, the Demons opened their road to the state tournament in Washington, hosting  the Oskaloosa Indians (4-18 overall) in the Class 4A Region 5 quarterfinal round. The game was a low scoring affair as the Indians sent the Demons into the offseason with a 36-34 loss.

Washington jumped out to an 11-9 lead in the first quarter, and led 17-16 at halftime. The Demons came out of the locker room flat, being outscored 12-4 in the period to trail 28-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Washington cut the Oskaloosa lead to two points and had a chance to win the game in the final second. Senior Amber Salow launched a go ahead three-point attempt with five seconds remaining, falling off the rim and the Indians ran out the clock for an upset win.

Senior Addie Pacha paced the Demons in scoring, pouring in 14 points in her final high school basketball game.

The Washington girls’ basketball team concludes their season with a 10-11 overall record, a four-win improvement from last season. The Demons lose Pacha, Salow, Morgan Kimbal, McKayla Miller, and Brynna DeLong to graduation.
