While the outdoors are cold and often covered in snow and ice this time of year, many people enjoy flowering plants indoors. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach horticulturists have provided some advice on how to care for indoor flowering plants during the winter months. Primrose should be kept in a cool, brightly lit location with moist potting soil. They advise, primroses decline quickly in dry or saturated soils.
If properly taken care of, cyclamen plants will bloom for six to eight weeks. They need to be kept in a brightly lit spot with temperatures between 55 and 65 degrees with moist potting soil.
Calceolaria, also known as lady’s purse or pocketbook plant, also needs a brightly lit, cool location. Potting soil should be checked daily and kept moist. They often bloom for two to four weeks in good care.
