Several area high school seniors were honored with Youth Salute leadership awards in a recent ceremony held in Iowa City.

Recognized were a total of 28 seniors from Washington High School, 16 from Mid-prairie High School, 11 from Highland, and eight each from Iowa Mennonite School and Lone Tree.

Timothy Bender, of IMS, was named as a runner-up for Outstanding Youth Leader. The awards are presented by the National Council on Youth Leadership.
