Taxpayers have four days left to file their returns or pay their taxes on time. Also, people can get six-month extensions by filling out form 4868 on IRS.gov.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, over 37.6 million people have filed their taxes online and self-prepared. The average refund is approximately $3,000 across the United States.

It is the first year in Iowa that an adoption tax credit is available. Social security benefits are not subject to the Iowa income tax. Also, the credit has been increased to $100 for volunteer firefighters, EMS and reserve peace officers. The deadline is April 15th for timely returns.
