Construction on Highway 1 near Brighton is anticipated to begin later this month. A February start was planned initially, but the replacement of the Skunk River Bridge is now set to begin Monday, January 26th.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-October. Until then traffic will be detoured. If a motorist is driving south on Highway 1, DOT Construction Engineer Jared Klein says they will take Highway 92 to South Iowa Avenue/Wayland Road/County Road W55, then take Coppock Road/County Road W47 before turning right on Iowa 78.
When Iowa Bridge and Culvert completes the $5.1 million project, the new bridge will have two 12-foot lanes and 10-foot shoulders on both sides.
