Welcome To Riverside
The city of Riverside is accepting applications for a vacant position on city council. Councilmember Chris Grinstead, elected last November, will be moving outside of city limits, meaning he is no longer eligible to serve on the council. Riverside has decided to fill the void left by Grinstead by appointing a new member. Iowa law and city code requires the city to fill the seat by either appointment or special election. Interested candidates must be 18 years of age or older, reside within city limits, and can fill out an application on the city’s website.
Applications must be turned in by Thursday, May 28 before midnight. Applicants will be invited to answer a panel of questions at the June 1 city council meeting before an appointment decision is made. Riverside City Administrator Cole Smith details what applicants can expect at the June 1 city council meeting. “Those who are interested will be able to answer a few different questions about why do they want to be on city council, things like that, so that the public can get to learn about who potentially would be on city council.”
The chosen applicant would serve the remainder of Grinstead’s term, which ends December 31, 2029. Questions may be directed to Riverside City Hall.
