The Lone Tree Lions kicked off their baseball season on Monday, falling 12-2 to the Belle Plaine Plainsmen on the road.

Lone Tree briefly led in the top of the second, scoring both of their runs in that half inning. Freshman Parker Shalla picked up an RBI. However, Belle Plaine took their first lead by the end of the second, going up 4-2 and never looking back. The Plainsmen added another run in the fourth, five more in the fifth, and two more in the sixth, claiming the 12-2 win.

Lone Tree eighth grader Kort Kemp took the loss, going four innings and giving up four earned runs. He struck out four and walked two. Belle Plaine senior Wade Sankot was the winning pitcher, striking out 14 over six innings.

Lone Tree will face off against Van Buren Wednesday in a varsity doubleheader.
