It was a glorious return to Columbus Junction for the boys and girls soccer programs, as both Wildcat teams took care of business against Centerville on Monday.
The girls started off Senior Night with a 3-0 win over the Big Reds. Columbus jumped into the lead early, with a goal delivered just two minutes in by Rozlynn Garza. The Wildcats then made it a multi-goal lead just a couple minutes later, with Mary Par cutting through the Centerville defense to make it a 2-0 lead. That scoreline would hold until 10 minutes into the second half, when Dahlia Valdez found her way to the net to make it 3-0. Despite a few more Wildcat chances, that would prove to be the final line for the day. Columbus improves to 4-5, with Centerville dropping to 2-11.
Following senior night activities, the Wildcat boys took to the field, and made it clear early on that they’d be the ones in control most of the night. Angel Alvarez opened the scoring with a strike 15 minutes into the second half, with Dante Orozco making it 2-0 six minutes before the break. After the half, a penalty kick by Diego Villagrana made it 3-0, and the Wildcats jumped on the ensuing kickoff to score just a minute later to increase their lead to 4-0. Following some roster rotation, Centerville scored their one and only goal, but Columbus was still able to cruise to the final whistle for a 4-1 win. Columbus jumps to 5-5-3 for the year, with Centerville falling to 0-13.
