The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls and boys soccer teams continued the River Valley Conference slates Friday with a road trip to West Branch.
The Golden Hawk girls struck late to score a 1-0 win at the Little Rose Bowl. After a scoreless half, that trend continued through the first 35 minutes of the second half. In the final five minutes of the match, Meadow Flynn lit the scoreboard for the Hawks, scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the year. The Mid-Prairie defense made sure that was enough as Niva Helmuth turned in a five save clean sheet against the Bears. The Golden Hawks finished with six shots on goal and two corner kicks. The win moves Mid-Prairie to 4-2 as the Bears drop to 2-5-1 this year.
The boys contest went to the Bears 2-0. West Branch scored both of their goals in the first half. The Hawks ended with five shots on goal and a corner kick, but were unable to find the back of the net offensively. Mac Yoder had a big night in goal for Mid-Prairie, making 15 saves. The Golden Hawks are 2-3-2 after the loss as West Branch improves to 4-4-1.
