The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls and boys soccer teams hosted a River Valley Conference soccer doubleheader in Wellman Monday, entertaining the Tipton Tigers.
The Golden Hawk girls ran their win streak to three straight matches with a 9-0 rout. The Hawks led by a 5-0 margin at the break and continued to pile on insurance after intermission, coming within one tally of ending the contest early. Mid-Prairie dominated the scoreboard and the stat sheet, putting 24 shots on goal without allowing a single one to the Tigers. The Golden Hawks won corner kicks 11-1. Kealy Roberts led the Mid-Prairie points parade, scoring four times. Fellow senior Meadow Flynn added a hat trick of her own and was the Golden Hawk leader with a pair of assists. Brooklyn Schneider and McKayla Bringman had one goal each. Avery Helmuth, Coral Sanchez Vera and Schneider each had an assist. Lily Flynn recorded the win in goal. After the match Meadow Flynn, Madison Reinier and Roberts talked with KCII Sports about their nights, the win for the team and the hot-streak for the Hawks.
Flynn said, “This was electrifying! We’ve had a great win streak so far and we hope that keeps going. We have been keeping positive and being straight-forward when we communicate with teammates. Make sure that we have a good vibe within the team. (Tonight), my assist was my favorite thing that happened. I had three goals, I was really proud of that. It’s my first time ever getting a hat trick but, my assist to Brooklyn (Schneider), because I knew she’s been working so hard. Being able to help her get that goal was so amazing! I was very happy for her.”
Roberts continued, “Tonight’s match was about, even though we got ahead, remembering that we needed to stay focused and work hard. Avery (Helmuth) had a great cross. Just being there and knowing where to be was great!”
Reinier added, “Even on the defensive side tonight, it was fun to sit back and watch the offensive players get their shot to score that goal they have been looking for. Defensively, we have been communicating a lot more (during this win streak). Knowing when to step up and when to drop back.”
Braxlyn Ehlers had 14 saves for Tipton. The win moves Mid-Prairie to 3-1 on the season and keeps the Tigers winless at 0-2-1.
The Mid-Prairie boys ran into a tough Tiger squad in the nightcap falling 6-2. Tipton scored a pair of rapid-fire goals midway through the first half, but Mid-Prairie answered to get back within 2-1. The Tigers stole momentum back before break with an extra goal to go into half up 3-1. The second stanza belonged to the Tigers by the same 3-1. The Hawks were even or better on the stat-sheet, just not the scoreboard, winning shots on goal 11-9 and each side finished with four corners. Golden Hawk goals belonged to Matthew Troyer and Jaxson Gingerich. Peyton Fox and Troyer each had an assist. Mac Yoder made 10 saves in goal for Mid-Prairie. The Tigers got two goals each from Oakley Kruse and Brody Johnson. Johnson also had a pair of assists. Vincent Lower recorded the win in goal with 11 saves. Following the result, both sides stand at 2-1-1.
