Youth Art Month is a celebration of the visual arts. Student exhibitions, public artworks, art festivals, and school events raise awareness and support of the visual arts to local and state education officials, business and community leaders, state and federal legislators.

Five Washington students’ art has been selected for the Governors Show. They include; Joel Watson in 10th grade, Brenna Walker in 12th grade, and Myla Vicker in 11th grade all with digital photography. Edith Kromrie in second grade submitted her tempera picture, and kindergartener Pablo Ortega’s tempera stick and watercolor was selected.

Other awards to note include a first place in elementary art for Brylee Carlin, in fourth grade with an oil pastel and permanent marker picture. There was also an honorable mention in the high school category given to 10th grader Kenzie Quigle with her acrylic painting.

Youth Art Month typically occurs in March, but local and state events celebrating visual art education take place on almost a year-round basis.
