It was a big season on the mat, re-writing the record books for Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling.

Senior Ellie Callahan hit two big milestones during the year. She now stands alone as the winningest all-time Golden Hawk in program history, with 120 career victories. That number eclipses the previous record of 105 set by Ashlee Farrier, 2025 graduate. Along with setting the new program standard, Callahan also hit the triple digit win mark in her senior season. Her first career victory came November 15th of 2022 with a pin of Araceli Rodriguez of Clinton at the North Scott Tournament. She finished her freshman year with a 28-14 overall record, qualifying for the State Tournament and finishing 1-2 in Coralville. Callahan’s sophomore year saw her go 27-18, hitting the halfway mark to 100 at the 2024 River Valley Conference Championships with a fifth place match pin of Olivia Ruggeberg of Bellevue. As a sophomore she would return to State and finish with a 1-2 record at Xtream Arena. Her junior season was a 25-4 campaign, the .862 win percentage the highest mark of her career. Callahan came for all the milestones as a senior, going 40-8, the highest single year win total of her career. In her final season she hit the 100 win mark at a quad in West Liberty December 8th, 2025, pinning Hailey Webb of Tipton. The record-tying and breaking victories for Callahan both came at the East Buchanan Tournament December 20th where she pinned Annika Krebsbach of Osage and Audrey Dix of Mount Vernon for wins 105 and 106. She would go on to finish her Mid-Prairie career at the State Tournament for the third time, this time in a sixth place spot on the podium after a 3-3 Tournament. Callahan finished with a career record of 120-44.

Senior Sophie Miller tied the Golden Hawk program record for highest State Tournament finish. Miller climbed to third on the podium, matching the performance from Mid-Prairie’s Rylee Vercande in 2020. After an early loss Miller was a wrecking ball on the backside of the bracket, rolling to a 5-1 record that included five pins in Coralville to finish third. The two seniors spoke with KCII Sports about what those numbers mean

Callahan said, “For me to be able to break the existing record for career wins was such a big accomplishment. To even get 100 wins was crazy. You can look back at some of my teammates even from freshman year and they might have only had 30 or 40 matches in a whole career! It’s been great to take that record, even though it’s from my teammate Ashlee (Farrier). It was also a goal of mine to beat my older brother (Gannon Callahan), he had 119 career wins.”

Miller continued, “When I placed third, I didn’t really know at the time that I was tying Rylee (Vercande). I think it’s pretty cool though because I really look up to Rylee a lot as a coach. It means more to me because I aspire to be like her and then I was able to do what she had done!”

Austyn Sexton tightened her stranglehold on the all-time Golden Hawk record for career reversals. Sexton, a junior, had broken the record her sophomore season with 26, eclipsing the previous mark of 24 set by 2024 grad Ellie Brenneman. Sexton added 11 reversals in the most recent season, standing at the top of the mountain at 37 for her career.
