Diners can get a taste of the nineteenth century later this month at an 1870s period meal in Kalona.
The dinner will be held on March 21st at the Kalona Historical Village, and features food and recipes from before the 1870s. The cost is $35 per person, with all proceeds going toward the new exhibit of the Washington County Military Museum.
Event organizer and local historian Mike Zahs says having the museum is important as it helps people remember the past, “We need more connections with our past to understand our future. Most of us have someone in our family that was involved in the military at some time, and this kind of connects us to that. And if we don’t, it still connects us with the past of our community.”
The military exhibit includes artifacts from the former museum in Washington that will now be on display at the Kalona Historical Village.
Dinner is served at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Advanced registration is required, as there is limited seating available. Registration can be done by calling the Kalona Historical Village, with payment taken on the day of the meal.
