A Mt. Pleasant man was charged with murder after a woman was fatally shot late Saturday night in Burlington.

According to the Burlington Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 7th, to a bar located in the 1500 block of Agency Street for a report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers located a female with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later pronounced deceased.

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Kaysean Rice of Mt. Pleasant on a second-degree murder charge, a class B felony. He was also charged with reckless use of a firearm and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, both class C felonies. A trial date has yet to be set. Rice is being held in the Des Moines County Jail.
