It’s getting closer to that time of the year when Iowans head out to Lake Darling for camping and boating, and the state park has a few updates for this season.
The most important update is the arrival of same-day online registration. Park ranger Zachary Haworth says that now campers can register online the same day they plan to head out to Lake Darling, “Imagine folks who are used to coming out to the park to fill out a registration card, and pay with cash or a check, imagine doing that from your home before you ever leave. So we’re going to be encouraging folks to be getting online and checking that real-time availability, and getting those sites registered before they ever come to the park.”
The park is also updating the plumbing in bathrooms and showers, as well as adding complimentary boat docks for the boat ramps.
Upcoming events to be on the lookout for include the Jimmy Dick Memorial Family Fishing Rodeo, in partnership with the Friends of Lake Darling organization. The dates for this year’s tournament are yet to be announced.
