Hillcrest Academy has hired a new Head of Schools. After three years of teaching math at Hillcrest and a year of being an interim principal at the school, Nate Miller was named as the Head of Schools.
Miller has over 20 years of teaching experience prior to coming to Hillcrest as a mathematics teacher. He did his undergraduate work at Simpson College. He completed a master’s degree, and recently completed the Iowa Principal Licensure Academy program to go into administration.
In terms of goals for Hillcrest Academy, Miller has quite a few, “Finances are always a concern for private schools. Along with that, our facilities need some attention, both expanding and renovating. We hope those can come together over the next couple of years. We also just want to continue to get better at our academics, and the way we infuse our Christian faith and Biblical worldview into academics and provide rigour and good college prep experience for our students.”
Some of the facilities Miller says need updates include the gym, which is shared by the middle school and high school. Miller said there’s about six or seven teams trying to use one court, plus outside youth teams. Miller said he would love to add some additional gym space.
For finances, Miller said he’s not too worried about finding the capital to keep the school covered, “I think our community is very supportive. Between that support, the positive momentum and growth we’re experiencing, and God’s provision, I think that will happen.”
Miller said they’ve had no problems with teacher retention, and unity within the school and community has been great as well.
Miller wants the students and the parents to know he is committed to improving the quality of Hillcrest Academy, “I’m invested in the Hillcrest community and school. I care about it a lot and I just want to do what’s best for the school and what’s right by them.”
Hillcrest Academy is a private Christian middle school and high school.
