With the Large Group All-State Festival in the rear view mirror, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks’ speech team is now focusing on individual events.
The Golden Hawks competed twice in the final week of February. On February 23rd, 13 members of the Mid-Prairie Speech Team competed in 21 events at the River Valley Conference Individual Events Speech contest at Maquoketa High School. The team received 14 Division I ratings, the top rating a performer can receive. Furthermore, at this event, five students received “Best in Center” awards, placing in the top three according to the judges of the event.
A few days later, on February 28th, the team competed at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s Individual Events Speech Contest at Montezuma High School. This time around, all 21 events received Division I ratings, and will be moving on to the IHSSA’s State Individual Events Contest at Vinton-Shellsburg High School on March 14th. At that contest, students will be rated by three separate judges. If nominated by at least two out of the three judges, that student and event will move on to the IHSSA Individual Events All-State Festival on March 30.
