The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team made sure to pack their hot shooting on the bus Tuesday when they traveled to Northeast Goose Lake for the Class 2A District 10 Championship game against the Rebels. In the end, the home team withstood the long ball barrage to beat the Golden Hawks 75-66. Northeast led 18-13 after the first quarter and stretched the advantage to a dozen at the break 35-23. Mid-Prairie used a 13-2 third quarter run pull within five going to the fourth at 51-46. The Hawks would cut the lead to three on three separate occasions down the stretch, but could get no closer as the Rebels salted the game away. Following the contest, Mid-Prairie head coach Daren Lambert spoke live on the KCII Postgame Show about his team’s fight, shooting and seniors. “We knew it was going to be difficult. Credit to (Northeast), they came out and attacked us. In the first half as a whole, we did enough to hang around. You saw us get a little more aggressive during the night, especially on the offensive end. They were letting us play a little bit so we had to turn things up. The message was that we have to go through contact. Play with toughness, physicality, relentless effort and respond to adversity. A lot of teams would have given in. These guys responded. They did that all season. Anytime a challenge was thrown at us, they stepped up. I’m proud of their effort with that. Brooks (Weber) really had to be the guy. They tried to take Bryce (Henry) out of the game. He still hit big shots when he found his window. Hudson (Ehrenfelt) really carried us during the third quarter on our run. I’m extremely proud of all of our seniors. I’m thankful for what they did for the program this year and over the last four years.”

Mid-Prairie shot 42% for the night, including 41% from deep, connecting on 13 threes. The Hawks had 20 rebounds and 10 assists as a team. Golden Hawk junior Brooks Weber brought a flame thrower, hitting eight threes, one shy of a school record, en route to a game high 29 points. Seniors Hudson Ehrenfelt and Bryce Henry each finished with 12 points. Henry finishes third on the all-time Mid-Prairie scoring list. Ehrenfelt added seven rebounds. Emerson Kreinbrink carried Northeast with a monster 25 point 16 rebound double double. Jaxen Christiansen had 22 points. With the win, the Rebels take the District 10 title and advance to Substate Saturday to meet No. 3 Iowa City Regina who was a 66-41 winner over Central Lee to win the District 9 title. Mid-Prairie finishes their year at 16-7 and says goodbye to six seniors including Clayton Davidson, Kaden Kos, Bryce Henry, Jordan Traetow, Hudson Ehrenfelt, and Cyris Christner.
