The Washington County Board of Supervisors were presented with a funding issue impacting a local organization at their regular meeting Tuesday.

The issue related to the PAWS and More Animal Shelter 28E agreement with the county. The fees for service section of the agreement stated that the county would provide $33,161 for boarding and transportation of animals in the county for fiscal year 2025-2026. This figure is based on a rolling five-year average of animals assisted in the county’s jurisdiction that is voted on by the board.

It was discovered that the county only provided $26,395 to the shelter, nearly $7,000 below the appropriate figure. This amount was stated by Shelter Director Amber Talbot during the annual report to the supervisors as the funds that were used the previous year, and was mistaken as what was going to be provided.

The supervisors voted and approved a resolution amending the current budget and approving the difference of $6,766 be paid to PAWS and More Animal Shelter.
