The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team has a chance at a District Championship 10 tonight when they travel to take on Northeast Goose Lake. The Hawks are 16-6 this year, finishing 10-4, second in the River Valley Conference South. They got through the opening round Thursday with a 63-56 win over Mediapolis. On the year, the Golden Hawks score 62 points per game and give up 54 on 43% shooting, 34% from three and 61% at the line with 30 rebounds, 13 assists, nine steals and 12 turnovers per game. Individually, Bryce Henry leads with 18 points and six rebounds per night. Brooks Weber has a team best four assists and three steals per game.
Northeast Goose Lake is 16-7 this year, finishing 11-3, second in the River Valley Conference North. The Rebels rolled in the first round, downing Durant 76-36. This year they score 64 points per game and give up 50 on 47% shooting, 32% from three and 65% at the line with 32 rebounds, 14 assists, nine steals and 13 turnovers per game. Individually, Jaxen Christiansen scores 22 points per game with four assists. Emerson Kreinbrink has eight boards per night and Colby Gray three steals. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Daren Lambert talked about the keys against the Rebels. We have a long road trip. We’re excited for the opportunity. We have to be who we are. We have to be disciplined from the tip. You do everything you can. The Hawks have won the last five in the series, including 61-43 in 2023 and a 74-43 substate game in 2022. The last Northeast win was 2020.
