iowa-and-back-showing

The Kalona Historical Village is hosting a showing of the film “From Iowa & Back: The Vietnam Era” this Sunday, with proceeds going toward the Washington County Military Museum.

The film, directed by Jeremy Glazier, explores the untold stories of Iowans who served in the military during the Vietnam War era. Glazier, whose father served in Vietnam himself and has since passed away, made the film to preserve the stories of Iowans before losing the chance.

Mike Huston, with the Washington County Military Museum, says the proceeds from the event will go toward renovating and transforming its new location at the Historical Village, “We’ve got a lot of plans to make some renovations, construct some built-in cabinets. And I think it’s going to be an opportunity for us to bring in some larger groups, maybe get some school groups in as well.”

The Washington County Military Museum has recently moved from its old location on Sitler Drive in Washington to the village. Huston says a big advantage of that move will be the ability to stay open more often, and for longer periods of time.

The cost is $5 for the general public, but veterans and Kalona Historical Village members can get in for free.
