Each team took home one in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader split in Wayland between the home WACO Warriors and the Columbus Wildcats. The ‘Cats opened the night claiming a 50-39 road girls win. The visitors led wire-to-wire, up 15-9 after one and 25-16 at half. Columbus narrowly took the second half 25-23. The Wildcats did it with defense, holding WACO to just 18% shooting and forcing 18 turnovers. Columbus shot 34%, made six threes and had 10 steals and nine assists. Ellie Sanders led the Wildcats with a 16 point night, Isabel Rendon had 13 points. For WACO, it was a 10 point night for Brenna Graber. The Wildcats were 8-9 after the win as the Warriors dropped to 7-12.

The WACO boys made it a split with a 49-34 victory in the nightcap. Defenses controlled the second contest between the schools as well, with WACO up 17-14 after one and 28-22 at halftime. The Warriors took the second half in total 21-12. WACO outshot Columbus 33-22%, winning rebounds 44-31, and assists 13-8. Niles Reichenbach had 11 points to lead the Warriors, Adam Stafford had 10. Fritz Figaro’s nine points were best for Columbus. The Warriors were 10-8 after the win, the Wildcats 7-9 after the loss.
