The Sigourney boys basketball team moved on with style points Monday night, manhandling visiting Moulton-Udell 80-31 in the opening round of the boys Class 1A District Tournament. Sigourney was sweltering early, scoring 37 points in the first period to lead by 27 after just eight minutes. The Savages won the second quarter 19-9, taking a 56-19 lead into half and enacting the running clock. Sigourney didn’t let up, beating the Eagles 24-12 in the second 16 minutes. The Savages shot 50% as a team, knocking down 11 threes and pulling in 40 boards, to go with 25 assists, 12 steals and just six turnovers. Individually, senior Solon Yates put on a show, scoring 31 points on 12 made shots, seven of which were threes. Moulton-Udell’s season ends at 6-16. The Savages move to the district semis to face conference foe Montezuma with an 18-4 record.
