The Winfield-Mt. Union boys saw their 2026 season come to an end Monday, falling to Danville 40-34 in a low-scoring contest on the road.
Baskets were truly at a premium Monday, with neither side lighting up the scoreboard. The Bears led 11-10 after the first, but were able to create a little bit of breathing room heading into halftime, 23-18. The Wolves continued to slip in the third quarter, only scoring 6 points and falling behind 34-23, but made an attempt at a comeback in the fourth. Unfortunately, WMU was only able to make up some of that ground, with Danville ultimately coming away with the win, 40-34.
Isaac Egli led the Wolves with 13 points. Connor Hulett scored 13 as well to lead Danville. WMU ends its season at 13-8, a win away from last season’s 14-win mark. Danville advances to the 1A Region 5 quarterfinals, where they’ll face Burlington Notre Dame.
