The Kalona City Council will meet for its regular meeting later tonight at Kalona City Hall, with several key items on the agenda for discussion.

In old business, the council will conduct a second reading of the proposed amended ordinance regarding golf carts on city streets. There is also the option to conduct the third and final readings of the ordinance if possible. The ordinance, if amended, would extend the duration of the permit given to golf carts registered to drive on city streets from one to five years.

In new business, the council will consider its participation in the East Central Iowa Council of Governments’ (ECICOG) Regional Comprehensive Action Plan. The plan would provide a long-term vision for the community, along with goals and objectives to meet that vision. Cities that have already agreed to participate include Riverside, Anamosa, Lisbon, and Walker among others.

The council will also receive a presentation from Shive-Hattery Architecture and Engineering, out of Iowa City. The presentation will focus on preliminary architectural services for a potential emergency management center.

Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
