An explosion and large fire happened near Brighton over the weekend, and the cause remains under investigation.

On Saturday, February 14th, at approximately 10:50 a.m., an explosion and large fire occurred in the 2000 block of 325th Street, approximately five miles east of Brighton near the Skunk River in rural Washington County. Firefighters from six area fire departments assisted at the scene. Washington Fire Chief Brendan DeLong stated that they had 20 respond to the fire and brought their foam trailer to the scene, but did not have to use it.

Emergency responders identified that the fire involved an underground pipeline containing natural gas liquids, owned and operated by Enterprise Products Partners L.P./Enterprise Products Operating LLC.

According to Enterprise Products, the Mid-America Pipeline Company has isolated the affected area of the pipe, and personnel and equipment are beginning the repair process.

They are working with the appropriate state and federal regulatory authorities to address the situation, and the cause of the explosion remains under investigation at this time.
