lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree boys have advanced in the Class 1A Region 5 tournament, and set a season high scoring total while doing so, defeating Belle Plaine 85-51.

The Lions were the favorites, facing a winless Belle Plaine squad, and the team gave no one in the gym any reason to doubt them. Lone Tree exploded for 33 points right out of the gate, taking a 19-point lead out of the first quarter. The Lions weren’t quite able to match that same pace throughout the rest of the game, but still added a respectable 23 points in the second quarter to lead 56-27 at the half. The second half was largely uneventful, with Lone Tree and Belle Plaine trading buckets, but Lone Tree was able to get the running clock going in what turned out to be an 85-51 victory.

Six Lions reached double-figures. Reece Holbrook led the Lions by dropping 16 points. John Daufeldt (14), Cade Willoz (13), Jackson Lyon (12), Gray Spillman (11), and Domonic Garcia (10) all added to the giant scoring effort. Lone Tree’s 85 is their highest total this season, surpassing the 70 the team scored in a win over English Valleys. Lone Tree improves to 6-15 with the win.

Next up for the Lions is Calamus-Wheatland. The Warriors are 20-2 this season and are fresh off a 99-67 win over Louisa-Muscatine last week.
