The WACO girls wrapped up their season with a 51-43 loss to Pekin in the first round of the Class 1A, Region 6 Tournament Thursday.

Like most of the Warriors’ losses this season, it was a competitive game that saw WACO in it until the very end. The Warriors trailed 13-10 at the end of the first, but led 22-20 at the half. WACO extended that lead to four by the end of the third, but were outscored 19-7 in the final quarter to see its season come to an end.

WACO finishes at 7-14 for the year, and on a 7-game losing streak. Of its 14 losses, 9 were by single digits. The Warriors will return a full roster next year, with no seniors on this year’s squad. This year’s large junior class will return as seniors next year, led by leading scorers Brenna Graber, Madelyn Farmer, Drew Graber, and Courtney Waterhouse. Ava Wagler, Carlee Lunsford, Natalie Wagler, and Kaylan Willits, are all set to come back for their senior season as well. Next year’s junior class, led by Bren Graber, Josie Dykstra, and Taelyn Egli, are also expected to contribute.
