The Sigourney boys and girls basketball teams ended the regular season with a trip to Centerville this week.
The Savage boys closed the regular season on a high note, scoring a 68-46 win. The Big Reds led 20-17 after the first and things were even at 32 at half. Sigourney turned things on after intermission, leading 48-45 after three, closing on a 20-1 run that put the game out of reach. The Savages shot a sweltering 60% from the floor compared to 30% for Centerville, winning the glass 32-23, and assists 19-12. Brayden Wood posted a game high 24 points. John Berg went double double with 15 point and 11 boards and Ike Molyneux added 10 points and eight assists. Malachi Rice led the Big Reds with 16 points. The win moved Sigourney to 17-4 while Centerville slides to 15-5.
Time ran out on the Sigourney girls comeback in a 58-50 loss. The Savages trailed 14-12 after the first and 25-20 at the break. The Big Redettes had a 28 point third quarter to build a cushion at 53-35 going to the fourth, but Sigourney turned it on late, going on a 15-5 run that spanned the full final period. Addison Tuttle’s 19 points led Centerville in the win. The Big Redettes are 15-6 after the win and Sigourney closes the book on the regular season at 14-8.
