The Sigourney Community School District will have a new superintendent starting in July. The SCSD Board of Education announced that they will be entering into a sharing agreement with Great Prairie Area Education Agency Chief Administrator Nathan Wood.

Under the agreement, Wood will continue to serve as Chief Administrator as the GPAEA, but will also serve Sigourney two days a week as superintendent. Wood’s selection comes at the end of an extensive, stakeholder-driven search for the superintendent position. Last week, current superintendent Kevin Hatfield sent a note to all Sigourney parents, students, staff, and community members saying that two finalists had been selected for the job. A couple of days later, Wood was announced as the new superintendent.

Wood is a 2003 graduate of Sigourney. He and his wife have three children currently within the district, including a senior at Sigourney High School, a fourth grader, and a third grader.

Wood will take over for Hatfield starting July 1st. Hatfield is exiting the role after announcing his retirement after 38 years in education, the last four of which have been at Sigourney.
