The Washington Demon girls basketball team came up short in its rematch with the Burlington Greyhounds, falling 59-54 as the team wraps up the regular season.
Washington started out hot, taking a 20-13 lead out of the first quarter. The Demons gave up some of that lead in the second quarter, but still took an advantage into the half, 30-28. The second half started out modestly enough, with both teams adding 7 points to their total to take the game into the fourth at 37-35, but the fourth quarter saw Burlington explode for 24 points, clearing Washington’s 17 and taking the 59-54 win.
Washington falls to 11-10 for the season, 6-4 in the Southeast Conference, and have now dropped two straight after a tough loss to Williamsburg on Monday. They’ll rest up the rest of the week before beginning postseason play at home on Saturday against conference foe Fairfield.
