Public input is wanted for an initiative in Kalona. The City of Kalona is participating in Iowa State University’s 2026 Community Visioning Program, with residents having an opportunity to participate through an upcoming workshop.

The goal of the project is to improve the community’s landscape through transportation enhancements, and to develop a plan that illustrates the vision of Kalona. To accomplish this, the program will divide residents into a variety of focus groups to identify factors that affect transportation use.

The workshop is scheduled for this Saturday, February 14th, at the Kalona Community Center. Participants will sign-up for and attend one focus group session. Those sessions are:

Group 1 – Older adults: 9–10 a.m.

Group 2 – Mobility-challenged individuals: 9–10 a.m.

Group 3 – Parents: 10:15–11:15 a.m.

Group 4 – Youth 12-years old and younger: 10:15–11:15 a.m.

Group 5 – Youth 13-years old and older: 10:15–11:15 a.m.

Group 6 – Active recreationists: 11:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m.

Group 7 – Steering committee: 11:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m.
