The Washington County Prairie Pride 4-H Club kicked off the new year by serving the community with the assistance of a donation of pork.
The Prairie Pride 4-H Club was one of the youth club recipients of the Ignite the Spirit project. The Ignite the Spirit project is part of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, and made possible by Iowa Select Farms. The foundation donates four cases of pork loins and $500 to prepare a meal to each recipient organization. Last year, over 37,000 pounds of Iowa pork went out to 16 communities across the state of Iowa.
Recently, Prairie Pride prepared the free Saturday Kitchen meal with the pork received from the foundation.
Every Saturday at the UP Church in Washington a free meal is available. This is open to any community member for free lunch and fellowship. Between 70-100 meals are served weekly with a different community group planning, preparing, and serving each meal.
