The WACO Warrior girls wrestling team hosted their home tournament Monday and it turned into a showcase for southeast Iowa athletes. The Highland Huskies had the top score for local teams, placing fourth of nine schools with 97 points, Van Buren was the winner with 180.5 points. Highland crowned two champions, with Adley Sweeting pinning her way to the top of the podium at 120lbs, on a 3-0 day that saw her spend less than a minute total on the mat. Sweeting’s title match win came over WACO’s Makayla Morrison. Maiya Singbeil’s run to the top at 140lbs was a 2-0 day in contested matches that included a pin of Lexie Wiley from Van Buren County for the title. Highland’s Hailey McFarland and Chloe Sexton each made the finals, finishing as runners-up.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union was sixth with 68 points. Jada Moats was the winner at 190lbs for the ‘Cats, by virtue of a 2-0 day with two pins. Rozlynn Garza and Lizbet Herrera each made the finals at 130 and 155 respectively to finish second.

WACO was eighth at their home tournament with 57 points. Top finish was Makayla Morrison second at 120lbs. Emorry Davis was third at 115, Deedra Graber at 125 and Macy Bonebrake at 235 were each fourth and Izabelle Felts at 145lbs was fifth.

Lone Tree was ninth with 51.5 points. Two Lions were best on the day with Olivia Magruder taking the title at 130lbs. She went 3-0 with two pins and a tech fall. Fay Eyler beat the field at 235, including a 12-3 major decision title match win over MaKenna Darland of North Mahaska.
