Iowa drivers now have the ability to report what they are seeing directly to the Department of Transportation through the 511 app. The 511 app is the official traffic and traveler information app of the Iowa DOT, and is a real time map showing travelers road conditions, construction updates, incident locations, and where snow plows are active across the state.
Drivers can choose from one of three options: traffic, for crashes and road standstills; road hazards, such as potholes or other debris; or flooding. The DOT reminds drivers to always use the hands-free option when driving, or have a passenger make the report if that is not possible.
Reporting is limited to roads managed by the DOT. That includes Interstates, US and State highways. The app does not accept reports on other roads. Reports can still be given by calling 511.
