Unfortunately for those wishing for a white Christmas this year, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that southeastern Iowa will be graced one in 2025.
The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities is currently calling for partly sunny skies over Washington County with a high in the upper 50s, a far cry from the chilling temperatures the area received late last week.
Historically, the odds are not in favor of a white Christmas for Washington County, or the region in general. National Weather Service data gathered between 1981 and 2010 suggests that there is typically a 30-40% chance of at least one inch of snow on the ground come Christmas Day.
Iowa did see plenty of snowfall earlier this month. Washington has observed 8.1 inches of snowfall so far this season, more than the total 7.6 inches of snowfall for the entirety of last winter.
