The Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams look to close the 2025 portion of the season with wins over conference opponent North Mahaska tonight in a pre-holiday Area Game of the Week doubleheader on KCII.

The Keota girls are 6-2 overall, 4-2 in South Iowa Cedar League play after two straight losses last week to No. 6 Lynnville-Sully and No. 11 Montezuma. Against the Bravettes, Keota fell behind early after one period 16-9, 28-16 after two and 45-18 after three. The Eagles are ranked No. 14 in the latest Class 1A poll by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. This season, Keota scores 53 points per game and gives up 44, shooting 36% from the field, 30% from downtown and 61% from the charity line, with 30 rebounds, 10 assists, 12 steals, three blocks, and 18 turnovers per game. Individually, a pair of Eagles average double figure points per night, including Cameron Haifley at 18 and Emily Conger at 10.

North Mahaska is 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the SICL after a 44-30 loss on the road Friday at No. 6 Lynnville-Sully. Carly Lake led the Warhawks with 14 points, while Nataliya Linder collected 17 boards and three blocked shots. This season, the Warhawks score 43 points per game and give up 34, shooting 28% from the field, 19% from three and 65% on free throws, with 32 rebounds, 12 assists and steals, two blocks, and 14 turnovers per game. Individually, Linder averages a double-double of 15 points and a SICL-leading 13 rebounds per contest.

In the Varsity Bound era, North Mahaska leads the all-time series with Keota 23-5 dating back to 2007 and are winners of nine straight.

The Eagle boys are off to a 3-3 start in conference play having dropped their three most recent contests. The latest loss came Friday at Montezuma 64-56. Keota was plagued by three Braves with double figures, including senior Brady Boulton’s double-double of 21 points and 11 boards. So far, the Eagles score 55 points per game and give up 47, shooting 37% from the floor, 24% from beyond the arc and 52% from the line, with 28 rebounds, 13 dimes, nine steals, two blocks, and nine turnovers a game. Individually, a trio of Eagles score in double figures, including Jackson Vittetoe at 17, Porter Cave with 11 and Chase Haifley’s 10 points per game.

The Warhawk boys are 2-4 overall and 2-3 in league play after a loss at Lynnville-Sully Friday 73-35. Trenton DeBruin paced North Mahaska with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Through six games, the team scores 46 points per game and gives up 54, shooting 39% from the floor, 22% from deep and 49% from the stripe, with 33 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals, four blocks, and 22 giveaways a night. Individually, DeBruin’s 66% shooting from the field is fifth-best in Class 1A.

Like the Warhawks on the girls’ side, Keota has controlled the all-time series with North Mahaska on the boys’ side 23-5 dating back to 2006 in the Varsity Bound era.
