
The Keota Eagle boys and girls basketball teams dropped both ends of a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader last week at Lynnville-Sully. The girls game saw a battle of unbeatens and the Eagles stopped for the first time this year 69-41. Keota trailed 21-12 after one and 43-29 at half. A 20-4 run by the Hawks out of the locker room put the game away. Keota was out shot 37-30%, dropping rebounds 51-24, assists 17-9, steals 11-6 and turnovers 18-12. The Hawks got an 11 point 10 rebound double double from Ava Brummel and a game high 21 points from Kate Harthoorn. The Eagles were led by 14 points from Cameron Haifley. Keota is 6-1 overall as Lynnville-Sully stays unbeaten at 7-0.
The Hawks were also a boys winner 57-47. They built a methodical first half lead at 14-8 after one quarter and 29-17 at half. Keota cut into the margin at 42-36 after three, but the Hawks held them off down the stretch for the win. Lynnville-Sully shot 36% to the Eagles 33%, won rebounding 50-29, assists, 18-14, steals 6-5 and turnovers 12-9. The Hawks got 11 points from Will Van Vark. Jackson Vittetoe led the Eagles with 12 points. Chase Haifley had 10. The Keota boys are 3-2 while Lynnville-Sully is a perfect 5-0.
