The Washington Demons will wrap up their 2025 with an SEC doubleheader against arch rival Mount Pleasant tonight on KCII.

The Demon girls are 4-2 overall, 1-1 in conference, and picked up a non-conference win earlier this week against Grinnell. Adalyn Long scored 19 points in the win, but was joined in double-digits by sister Ashlynn Long and Addison Miller, who each had 10. Leighton Messinger pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the team in that category. Washington has played games mostly on the low-end of the scoring spectrum, averaging 46 points a game, but are holding opponents to just 38.8 points a game this season. Still, they’ll look to continue to increase their scoring output to further widen that gap. Adalyn Long still leads the team in season scoring, averaging 15 points a game, but the Demons will look to increase the numbers from players such as Addison Miller or Reagan Miller, who each average around 6 points per game.

Mount Pleasant is 1-5 this season, and 0-2 in the SEC. The Panthers average just 34.8 points a game, and have been outscored by an average of 20 points in their 6 games this season. Their lone victory was a 33-27 win over HTC. Mount Pleasant does not have a player averaging above 7 points a game this year, with their main contributor, senior Abby Carthey, averaging just 6.8 points a game.

The Panthers lead the all-time series in the Bound era, winning 21 of 40 contests since 2006. However, Washington has won each of the last four games, narrowing that lead. The Demons picked up two of their six wins off of Mount Pleasant last season, winning 57-17 and 58-26.

Like the girls, the Washington boys have started the year off at 4-2, and 1-1 in conference. Washington defeated Grinnell on Monday, but lost to Oskaloosa 66-42 in a boys-only contest. Returning to conference play, Washington will return some of the momentum they had going into the new year. The Demons’ strongest aspect this year has been their ability to spread the ball around, with three scoring threats able to carry the load if need be. Drew Conrad, Rajan Roth, and Nic Stone are all averaging about 13 points per game this season. Roth and Stone have also been proficient rebounders this year, while Conrad is the team’s leader in assists.

Mount Pleasant is 1-4 this season, but is tied with Washington in conference with a 1-1 record. The Panthers defeated Fort Madison last week, but lost to Benton on Monday 70-47. Mount Pleasant is being outscored by an average of 15 points this year, but shoot relatively well, shooting just under 40% from the field. Like the Demons, the Panthers can rely on one of two scorers to be the leader if need be. Senior Aiden Humble is the team leader at 12.4 points per game, but sophomore Isaiah Lange is right behind him at 12.2 points per game. Lange also pulls in 9.2 rebounds per game.

Mount Pleasant holds a big lead in the all-time series, winning 27 of 34 games since 2009. However, the teams did split in 2024-2025, with Washington winning the first meeting 61-50 but dropping the second 62-53.

Tonight’s doubleheader can be heard on FM106.1, the KCII1 app, and kciiradio.com. The Demon Basketball  Pregame Show kicks off about 5:30 p.m, with tip of the girls game coming around 6. The boys will then follow.
