The Washington County Board of Supervisors voted to keep the chairman stipend set at $3,500 at their meeting Tuesday.

A motion was made by Stan Stoops to raise the stipend to $4,000 but that motion failed in a three to two vote with Marcus Fedler, Jack Seward, and Richard Young voting no.

Seward shared his thoughts on not voting for an increase, “The motion was to increase it (the stipend). But since we are talking about trying to reduce the cost of government, and reducing expenses, I’m against increasing those expenses. And that shows that we are willing to take a cut also.”

The stipend for the board chair is in addition to the salary that the board receives which is $51,730.00 annually for each of the five supervisors.
