Friday, the Lone Tree Lion boys and girls basketball teams hosted the WACO Warriors in a Southeast Iowa Superconference double dip. The home team was a winner in the ladies contest 55-50. Lone Tree led from start to finish but could never fully shake the Warriors, on top 17-13 after one and 32-24 at intermission. WACO won the second half 26-23, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback. The Warriors shot 44% as a team to Lone Tree’s 42%, WACO won rebounding 31-30, assists 12-10, steals 11-8 and turnovers 21-18. Individual leaders for Lone Tree in the win included a duo of monster performances from Finley Jacque and Ava Christofferson. The pair combined on 47 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals. The Warriors had a pair in double figures with Brenna Graber scoring 18 points and Madelyn Farmer a double double of 12 points and 10 boards. Lone Tree improves to 4-3 with the win, while the Warriors drop to 0-4.

The boys contest was a Warrior winner 56-53. The two teams were tied at 14 after the first and 23 at half. WACO looked to take control with a 22-6 run that spanned the full third quarter, but the Lions counter-punched late with a 24-11 fourth quarter run that almost brought them all the way back. WACO out shot Lone Tree 48-45%. The Warriors won the glass 27-23, assists 17-15, turnovers 17-15 and each team had nine steals. Hayden Shelman was one of three Warriors in double figures with 17 points, also collecting six rebounds. Holden Hughes had 15 points and six boards, Kellen Shelman added 10 points. For Lone Tree it was also a double figure trio with Reece Holbrook scoring 17 points, Kaden Sojka poured in 14 off the bench and Domonic Garcia had 10. WACO is 3-1 with the win while Lone Tree is 1-4.
