It was a Southeast Iowa Superconference split Friday night in Riverside when the Highland Huskies hosted Winfield-Mt. Union. The boys contest saw the Wolves take a 67-32 victory. WMU raced out to a 15-5 lead after one and were on top 36-14 at half. A 20-8 run in the third quarter made it 56-22 after three. The Wolves shot 48% to the Huskies 31%, winning the boards 34-21, assists 14-8, steals 15-7 and turnovers 24-16. Four for the Wolves got to double figures led by 18 points for Cody Milks, Nick Sparrow added 14 points and Isaac Egli and Max Edwards had 10 each. Edwards added seven rebounds, Egli had five steals and four assists. Highland leaders included Bryce Hazelett with 10 points, Jacob Schneider and Landon Roling each had six boards, Jesse Thompson had three assists and two steals. The win moved WMU to 3-1 while the Huskies are 0-5.

The girls contest was a Highland 67-17 statement win. The Huskies were on top 22-10 after one and allowed just seven points the rest of the night, winning the final three frames 45-7 to secure the win. Highland shot 42% from the floor as a team to Winfield-Mt. Union’s 17%, winning rebounds 43-30, assists 20-4, steals 29-8 and turnovers 40-18. Four Huskies were in double figures led by a 16 point night for Hailey Brun. Kamryn Fink had a double double of 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with seven steals and five assists. Emersyn Schultz and Autumn Guseman each chipped in 11. The Lady Wolves had six points from Lilly Heckethorn, Quin Smith grabbed 11 rebounds and three steals. Highland is 6-1, winners of six straight while WMU drops to 1-5.
