This week, Golden Hawk head coach Jenny Hobbs talked with KCII Sports about what she wants to see from her team. “We have had a lot of different people play well so far this year. (Against West Branch), we had four people in double figures and then the fifth person at nine points. When you’re leading scorers have 12 points, then another has 11, 10 points and another has nine, that’s fun! Everybody is getting involved, everybody is playing and everybody is contributing. When you play with intensity and you play hard, that is fun! You can look back and say ‘We’re playing hard’!
The Hawks and Beavers have split their last 10 contest, including a split a season ago with a 92-31 win for Mid-Prairie in Wellman and the Beavers winning on their home floor 67-62. Brooks Weber averages four assists and four steals per game. Wilton is 1-3 including a 67-57 loss at Regina Friday. The Beavers score 56 per night on 42% shooting, 29% from three and 64% at the line with 30 rebounds, 14 assists, 10 steals, five blocks and 15 turnovers per game. Individually, Bryer Putman scores 20 points with 12 boards, four blocks, four assists and two steals per game. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Daren Lambert talked about the keys for his club on the road Tuesday. “We focus on the moments where we need guys to step up. It’s not always about scoring points. There are guys that we lean on for that. It’s what you do in the small moments, maybe getting your hand on a ball so somebody else can get a steal. Playing your role. Guys have been unselfish this year, playing for each other. We need that to continue.”
Wilton has won six of seven in the series with a split last year as the Hawks won 75-56 in Wellman and the Beavers were an 85-82 winner at home.
