One game of a Southeast Iowa Superconference basketball doubleheader went each school’s way at Hillcrest Union in Kalona Friday when the home Ravens hosted Wapello. The girls contest featured an Arrows come-from-behind 40-39 win. Hillcrest held a 14-8 lead after one and were on top 18-15 at half. The lead stayed with the Ravens at 31-26 after three. The Arrows outscored the Ravens in the final period 14-8 to score the victory. The winning Wapello points came on a pair of free throws from junior Annaka Greiner with 40 seconds left, and Taeya Wagner forced a Raven turnover to finish the win. Jakayla Nelson led Wapello with 13 points and eight rebounds. Hillcrest got 14 points from Brynna Boshart and 11 from Claire Withrow. The Ravens are 3-3 overall after the loss and 1-3 in conference while Wapello is 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the league.

The boys game was a Raven 71-52 win. Hillcrest took a 15-10 lead after one and were on top 32-18 at half thanks to a 17-8 second quarter. Hillcrest outscored the visitors 39-34 after half to finish the win. The Ravens shot 49% to 41% for Wapello and won rebounding 33-29, assists 20-12, steals 10-4 and turnovers 14-13. Kale Bailey’s 26 points led a Hillcrest trio in double figures that also included a Rowan Miller double double with 13 points and 11 assists and Gibson Scott with 10 points. Hillcrest is 4-0 on the young season while Wapello stands at 2-3.
