The YMCA of Washington will be celebrating the one year anniversary of their Aquatic Center on Monday.
According to YMCA of Washington County CEO Amy Schulte, they have seen a 24% increase in their membership since the opening of the new facility and are averaging over 1,000 users per month in the indoor aquatic center alone. In total, they have served over 260 youth swimmers through their various lessons since opening last December. Additionally, they were able to add adult swim lessons.
They were able to hold their first YMCA competitive swim meet in 10 years and welcomed swimmers from five different communities to Washington for this event. They had over 120 youth swimmers along with their coaches, parents and family members who filled the YMCA for a day of swimming. This year’s home swim meet is set for January 10, 2026.
The project is $100,000 away from being completely funded and they are hopeful this will be paid off by the end of January with the continued support they have received from the community. The goal for the next year is to develop some community fun nights and activities in the aquatic center area and continue to grow their lifeguard staff.
There will be an open house and ribbon cutting celebration on Monday beginning at 4 p.m. Snacks and refreshments will be available during the celebration.
