Construction on W61, 12th Street near Washington, has stopped for the winter season and the road is open to through traffic.

Starting the week of October 13th, a portion of one lane on W61 (12th Street) was closed to allow the contractor to begin work to pave a 4-foot wide portion of the shoulders from East 15th Street in Washington, north to G36 (220th Street).

L.L. Pelling of North Liberty was awarded the contract for the work at just under $800,000. Part of the funding is a $450,000 Highway Safety Improvement Program grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation. The project aims to address the edge ruts that develop along the existing pavement due to high volumes of commuter, truck, and agricultural traffic on the road.

Once conditions are favorable in the spring, L.L. Pelling will move back in to complete the project.
