Local girls wrestlers made a statement on the mat Saturday at the Willard Howell Invitational at Wapello.

Of the three local teams at the event, Sigourney-Keota had the highest finish, placing fifth of 22 schools with 109 points. North Scott won the meet with 150. Kia Montgomery was the winner at 130lbs with a 3-0 day that included a finals fall over Josslyn Holladay of Wilton. Other top SK performers included Izzy Heisdorffer runner-up at 145, third for Sadie Clarahan at 125 and Karley Greiner at 155, Melanie Woodsmall fourth at 170 and Abyl McCulley fifth at 140lbs.

Highland was sixth with 94 points. Two titles came home with the Huskies including Adley Sweeting at 120lbs, after a 3-0 tournament with a finals fall over Abigail Meyrer of Pleasant Valley. Maiya Singbeil was the champ at 140lbs, going 3-0 with a pin for the title over Chloe Denhartog of Louisa-Muscatine. Other Huskies leaders included Chloe Sexton third at 235, and Lilliana Ruiz-DeChavez fourth at 110.

WACO was 16th with 24 points. Emmory Davis at 115lbs in fifth place had the top spot on the podium for the Warriors with Izabelle Felts sixth at 145.
