The No. 13 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team had their first measuring stick game of the year Monday night, taking a trip north to battle No. 5 in 3A Mount Vernon. The Mustangs beat the Golden Hawks 59-46. Mt. Vernon led 18-16 after one and the game was tied at 28 at half. The difference was a 19-8 Mustang run in the third and Mid-Prairie never recovered. The Hawks shot 36% as a team with 34 rebounds, 13 assists and 11 steals. Mid-Prairie committed 18 turnovers. Brooklyn Schneider’s 16 points led the way, Tessa Bombei had 11 rebounds, Jovi Evans four steals and Bombei and Katelyn Harland three assists each. The loss is the first of the season for the Hawks who are 2-1, Mt. Vernon is now 3-2.
